Spirituality is what breathes purpose into our lives. It is the “why” of why we are here. It is what allows us to put our egos aside and acknowledge something larger than ourselves. It is often unique to the individual in how they view it and experience it. It may stem from someone’s religious beliefs or could be driven by something entirely different. How we view it can easily evolve or change over the years as we experience and learn new things.
Making time to explore and define our own personal spirituality is critical to our overall wellness. Understanding our reason for being here and that we are a part of something bigger helps shape our thoughts and greatly influences how we make our way through the world. It is that thing that drives our decision making and how we treat others. When we ignore spirituality and don’t take the time we need to nurture it and grow in it, we can feel lost, without any sense of direction. Sometimes even hopelessness and a sense of meaninglessness can set in. However, when we spend some time on this important building block of wellness, we set ourselves up for a fulfilling and purposeful life.
If you are new to the idea of spirituality and would like to explore it for yourself, or perhaps you want to rejuvenate this area in your life, I invite you to take some to think about the questions below and answer them for yourself. Your answers should help get you started on your own personal path to a more spiritual way of living and better understanding of the world around you and how you fit in it.
***How am I connected to the world around me?
***How can I be the best version of myself?…what does that look like?
***What reason is there for my suffering, and for others who suffer?
***Why do things happen? Is there a reason for everything?
***Am I good to others? Am I a good person in general?
